Transparency and User Awareness
Under the updated policy Google will require apps to be transparent with users about tokenized digital assets. This includes disclosing the game’s blockchain-based status on the Google Play Store content page . If any products within Android games have matching NFTs then developers must clearly communicate this information to users.
Unlocking Content with NFTs
Google will allow NFTs to unlock content within apps regardless of where the user purchased the NFT. This sets Google apart from its main competitor Apple as it does not permit this feature. However Google’s policies disallow the promotion or glamorization of cryptocurrency or NFT trading activities . Developers must also ensure compliance with Google’s rules on real money gambling and contests.
Limitations on Wagering and Gambling Mechanics
While developers can offer in-game NFTs to enhance the user experience NFTs cannot be betted and sweepstakes will not be allowed. Google’s policy prohibits any wagering or gambling mechanics unless the developer meets the gambling eligibility requirements that are set by Google . NFTs purchased by users must be consumed or used in-game for progression purposes and should not be exchanged for the opportunity to win prizes of real-world monetary value.
Gradual Implementation and Collaborations

Mythical Games, the developer of NFL Rivals and Reddit are among the companies that are working with Google to improve policies on NFTs.
